Story:
The story of my car really starts in 2000, when I had an MA-61 and started collecting parts to build a 7M-GTE to transplant into it. The HKS crossover pipe on the motor is actually the first part I bought! Somewhere along the line the plan mutated and I decided to switch to an MA-70, and still use the parts I had gathered for a fresh motor.

As my Brother and a friend of his had Australian delivered MA-70s for 8 or so years, I wanted something a little different to theirs, and hence I went with an imported JDM model. The main differences to the locally delivered cars were the digital dash, option of leather, ABS and lots of other little bits and pieces. Having the JDM model also had a coolness factor to it for me. It took me a year to find the right car, my main criteria being grey interior, black or blue exterior and I wanted and aerotop. It was worth the wait and difficulty of turning many cars down to finally get the right one.

The importer delivered the car to me on Christmas Eve 2001. I planned to rebuild the motor when it inevitably let go and do all the supporting mods to support a modded CT-26 running at full potential. This was all I was going to do to the car and then just enjoy it. Yeah right! Well it only took a little over a week for the head gasket to start leaking and then the motor was re-built slowly and modded as planned. As time went on I got the itch for more power, first camshafts, and then bigger turbo (GT35R), then moving from piggy backs to the MOTEC to get it to run to its full potential. For that extra push over the cliff I had the GT35R modified to get to where I am now. To get a big gain in power now would need A LOT of major mods so , for the time being atleast I think the car is pretty much (besides the future plans mentioned further on) done power wise. I’ve always been a bit of a detail freak and along the way the motor and car has steadily had a lot of detail work done to it. I made he decision to stick with the stock intake manifold and so far its been OK.

I think the journey is just as much fun as the destination, and I’m sure I will always be able to think of that one last mod

Custom: The main custom parts on my car is the fabrication, including the stainless steel intercooler piping, turbo intake pipe, stainless dump pipe and the T-03 to T-04 adapter to mount the turbo on he HKS manifold. The power steering line arrangement has been completely re-worked and simplified with a PS fluid cooler now located in the nose of the car in front of the intercooler.

Press: Car was featured in issue 91 of Zoom Magazine
Runner up 6cyl Engine bay at Small Car Sunday 2004
Outright dyno comp winner Toyoshow 2007

Track time: TBA, when track re-opens plan to run down the quarter

Future plans: Currently planning to pull the car apart late 2008 for a complete repaint with many parts replaced with new OEM. Planning on doing a lot of detail work while the car is apart including painting the engine bay and filling in all the extra holes.

While it is out, the motor will be rebuilt with Crower Rods and the head will be ported. As well as freeing up the restriction of the standard head and potentially making more power the main goal with the head work will be to see improved turbo spool-up.
